Wrong Site Surgery is the #1 "Never Event"

'Never Events' were identified by Lord Darzi in 'High quality care for all: NHS Next Stage Review final report', as serious and largely preventable patient safety incidents.

The NPSA is working with key stakeholders to develop and test a list of 'Never Events', and a process for use in the NHS from 2009/10. Wrong Site Surgery tops this list.
