Safe Patient Systems is pleased to announce a Go-Live for its Safe Surgery System at the Freeman Hospital, part of the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Trust - one of the largest Foundation Trusts in the NHS.

The first phase of the implementation started with the Endourology Theatre at 07:30am on September 23rd 2008. The next phase will see the roll out into 6 theatres including Urology and Vascular Surgery later this autumn and then into all theatres.

The Safe Surgery System is a patented process management and identification system using printed Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tagged wristbands and digital photo identification linked to an electronic safety checklist to prevent wrong side/wrong site surgery, enhance hospital efficiency and reduce exposure to litigation costs. The system has been tailored to suit the requirements of Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Trust as part of their investment in Information Technology to support clinical services and enhance patient safety.
